Buoyed up from winning in midweek you would have expected Balham to start this crucial game on fire however it was AFC Hayes who came out of the blocks fastest and sharpest. Balham, in contrast, looked flat. The home side took a deserved lead and Balham were fortunate not to be more than one goal in arrears at half time. They responded very well though and looked a completely different side following the restart. A goal from Andre Cruz-Rosa restored parity and with Balham now in the ascendency things were looking bright. As has happened so many times this season however, when seemingly in control, Balham gifted a goal to their delighted opponents and then to make matters much worse gifted another one soon after. As a result a game and much needed points that were very much in their grasp were blown to the wind and huge frustration and disappointment became the order of the day.
