Losing this game was a bitter blow for Balham, as they seemed to be in total control of it throughout. When you miss gilt-edged chances though, when the opposition keeper plays a blinder and when you have goal bound attempts cleared off the line, you start to wonder if it’s going to be your day. The key thing, of course, in a game that you’re dominating but which remains scoreless is not to give the opposition a sniff. On this occasion though, that’s exactly what Balham did, midway through the second half. A needless penalty given away gave City a surprise lead and something to hang onto, which, despite having everything but the kitchen sink thrown at them, they managed to do.
