FIRSTS v Raynes Park Vale 2-0

Balham’s second home game of the new league campaign was not dissimilar to the first, eleven days earlier. The 2-0 scoreline against newly promoted Raynes Park Vale was the same, as in many ways was the performance. Solid defensively and seemingly always in control, Balham played some eye catching expansive football. They didn’t get their noses in front though until just after half time when centre back Marco Erriu headed home at the far post from a corner flicked on at the near one. The match, which opened up as it progressed, was still in the balance until Tino Carpene scored for the fourth consecutive game to give Balham the breathing space they needed.
