FIRSTS v AFC Wimbledon 1-0

What a night! What a game! A bumper crowd of just under 400 poured into the Wibbandune to see Balham play their first ever competitive game against football league opposition. They were treated to a riveting cup tie with both sides giving their all in the quest for a place in the Quarter Finals of the London Senior Cup. The game was won by the narrowest of margins but with a goal of real quality. Arsen Ujkaj was in the right place at the right time, midway through the second half, to side foot the ball home following a trademark, free flowing, move from the home team. Wimbledon had their chances but at the end could not and did not complain about the final result. For this young Balham team, spurred on by the superb singing, chanting, home support, it was a coming of age game and proof that what is being built in SW12 has progressed well since the senior side was launched five promotions below where they are now, back in 2011.
