This game ended up being narrowly lost because of a bad three minute period in the first half when two goals were conceded, very much against the run of play. The first came after a defensive slip and the second occurred after a needless free kick was given away, borne out of frustration. That in itself wasn’t a disaster but the wall that formed, which was as solid as single cream, was. Having dominated before the double blip Balham continued to dominate after it, with keeper Haydn Read largely a passenger in terms of having to make crucial saves. It looked as though the goal that Balham needed though, to get back into the game, would never come. Finally, however, with eight minutes to go, substitute Arsen Ujkaj tucked one away from just inside the box. Balham then piled on the pressure until the final whistle. Thanks to durable defending though, bad luck and two cast iron penalty claims being waved away, to the disbelief of both benches, the deserved equaliser never came and frustration ruled the day.
