Having started this game, against in form CB Hounslow, in confident and disciplined fashion Balham conspired to commit harakiri and hand a tough to get but attainable three points to a side whose impressive new ground could serve as a landing strip for planes on their descent to Heathrow. A needless free kick given away, followed by a goal conceded from a Balham throw, gave the home side a 2-0 half time lead. Having piled on pressure for fifteen minutes after the break Balham then gave away a penalty to almost take the game out of reach. They continued to press to get back into a match that they’d handed to their hosts on a platter but, in doing so, got caught twice on the break late on to turn a miserable afternoon into an utterly horrible one.
