LONDON SENIOR CUP
This London Senior Cup quarter final away to high flying Ryman Prem’ side, Hendon, provided another great night in the evolving history of Balham FC, as they claimed the scalp of another side higher up the football league ladder. Hendon, who sit two promotions above their visitors, whilst no doubt expecting a tough game, on a freezing cold night, must have been extremely confident that they’d have too much in their arsenal for their CCL oppo’. The home side were in for a surprise though as Balham started in top form, popping the ball about with gusto, on the 3g carpet. They kept up the high standard of their beginning through to the end of the first half and deservedly had a one goal lead to show for it, thanks to the majestic Arsen Ujkaj. More questions were asked by Hendon in the second half but it was Balham who extended their lead when Ibrahim Olutade capitalised on a defensive centre back and keeper mix up. With the cushion of a two goal advantage things were looking good, however that soon changed when Hendon struck back to halve their deficit. From then until the final whistle they piled on pressure, but Balham stood firm, restricting them to very few clear cut opportunities. When the end eventually came naturally their were scenes of celebration, jubilation and a huge feeling of pride, not only in having performed another David v Goliath feat but in the manner in which it was done.
