Reserves v Claygate Royals 1-2

It was the BFC Reserves first game back after the Christmas break, so the first ten minutes saw the Balham boys dusting off the cobwebs. After a few shaky moments the boys stood firm and began to take control of the game. We were rewarded with a goal thanks to the efforts of Dom Simpson-Last in the 30th minute. The goal resulted in a surge of chances which, regrettably, weren’t taken. Annoyingly, Claygate managed to tap in a goal just before half time, due to sloppy marking in defence. In the second half Balham came out looking very good, with Khalid Savage being utilised more on the left flank. Against the run of play though, Claygate scored a free kick which resembled Ronaldinho’s effort against England in the 2002 World Cup quarter final. The last twenty minutes saw Balham pile on the pressure, with all of the front three going close. In the dying minutes Savage had a well worked goal controversially chalked off for offside. As a consequence, the final result was a disappointing, frustrating, 2-1 to The Swans.
