Firsts v Banstead Athletic 2-0

Balham’s first league win of the season arrived courtesy of their best all round performance to date. They put the huge frustration and disappointment of Tuesday night in Horley behind them and were on the money from the first to last whistle, playing controlled pass and move football on a lovely pitch at The Wibbandune on a warm, sunny, Saturday afternoon. A first half goal from Grant Goodband, who headed home a Tomasz Wocial corner, gave them a lead they very much deserved at the break. The second and decisive goal didn’t arrive until late in the game but it was a goal to savour when it did, from the on fire Ibrahim Olutade, who shielded the ball well before beating his marker and unleashing a thunderbolt, which flew like a rocket past the hapless Banstead keeper and in doing sealed victory.
