A bumper crowd turned up at the Wibbandune for this historic first round proper game against Deal Town in the FA Vase. It’s Balham’s first season in the extremely famous, illustrious competition, which the visitors have very impressively won in the past. The game was a tight affair but one that ended in huge disappointment for all those of a Balham persuasion. Although they dominated throughout in terms of quality of play, territory, possession and chances created, two goals from free kicks both needlessly given away, a missed penalty and a goal, on the break, conceded after Balham were pushing for an equaliser at 1-2, proved their undoing. It’s no surprise that Ibrahim Olutade was on the score sheet again but too many other opportunities were spurned and as a result it’s the Kent seaside town who progress whilst Balham are left to lick their wounds, the dream of a Wembley final having evaporated into the ether.
