The less said about this performance away to AFC Hayes the better. It was under par from start to finish and there can be no complaints about the result. If you start in the wrong gear, with the wrong mindset, you are liable to under perform and that’s exactly what happened. The lingering frustration will be that despite playing poorly Balham were not outplayed. All three goals came in the first half. James Gallagher, who has been in excellent form, captaining the Reserves, got an equaliser following a defensive error which led to to the opening goal for Hayes. A misplaced pass and poor defending again allowed the home side to regain the lead at a point in the game where Balham might have been expected to take control. The away side never dominated however and as a result trudged off the pitch at the end defeated and deflated.
