Having looked in fine fettle and complete control for the first twenty minutes of this midweek game in Horley, having scored a lovely goal when Ibrahim Olutade tucked home a Tomasz Wocial cross at the near post, for some inexplicable reason the wheels came off big time and a horrendous fifty minutes followed. Everything Balham had done well to gain the ascendency seemed to fly out of the window when the home side equalised. It wasn’t until the final quarter, when having had both Grant Goodband and Marco Erriu harshly dismissed, playing 9 v 11, that Balham looked good again. To shut up shop and not concede in this period, thus avoiding a heavy defeat becoming a rout, was scant consolation to take back to the Metropolis but it did at least mean there was a positive to end on at the Horley Town horror show.
