FROM THE DUGOUT – 13 FEBURARY

It’s not often that I’m lost for words but in this instance I really am. Our bad run of results continues thanks to our not seeming to learn that doing the basics really matters. We started very well at Southall, last Saturday and deservedly took the lead, but then conceded straight from the kick off. Twenty seconds after celebrating a fantastic goal we were back in the centre circle shocked, stupified and crestfallen. The second goal conceded came as a result of poor defending and the third, which arrived late in the game, when we looked as though we might still draw level, was another basic error, when two players went for the same ball, leaving a striker to run in on goal and secure the points. To say it’s frustrating is an understatement. We have lacked a cutting edge but have been playing good football and have been in contention in every game we’ve played. We welcome Spelthorne Sports to the Wibbandune this afternoon in the knowledge that more of the same will surely follow if we don’t tighten up defensively and if we don’t capitalise on chances created.
