With the winners of this second round game against Cockfosters drawn to play AFC Wimbledon, the Balham brigade started this game with their foot on the gas and took an early lead inside the first 15 mins with a well worked corner finished off by Julian Fuller. The away side had some good spells of possession and territory through the middle stages of the first halve with some resolute defending on show from the home side. With the game very much in the balance, Michael McConnell took the game into his own hands. A neat combination down the right flank opened up some space for McConnell to deliver a cross usually seen from a right back in the Parc des Princes. Only one player had eyes for the peach of the cross and it was Balham’s very own goal machine, Olutade, with a fantastic finish to a free flowing move. The goal just before HT knocked the stuffing out of the opposition and a steely, disciplined display from the SW12 boys in the second half made sure that the fairytale AFC game was booked and in the bag.
